Ecological Footprints

Everyone has heard about our footprints and how to reduce them. Well here's my solution; Cut back. Sounds simple doesn't it ? Probably because it is. People on this Earth have been living fine for centuries upon centuries without causing this much global destruction. The people of our era are too concerned with money and entertainment to enjoy life and this planet for what it is. All we need to do is STOP. I've heard countless times " Everything environmentally friendly is too expensive ", and that's true. So why not make it cheaper. Is becoming in a deficit as big a deal as not having a place to live ? Man's greed is out-weighing life of the human race at this point in time, which is absolutely pathetic. Open your eyes here people, it is time for a major change in the way we live.

Lesson 2.1: Visualising Footprints

‚The environment becomes inspiration. My response to it becomes idea. And idea becomes purpose and action through interpretation (...).‛ ~ Gerald Bromer

Ecological Footprint; What is it and how can I help ?

"Ecological footprint is not about ‘how bad things are.’ It is about humanity’s continuing dependence on nature and what we can do to secure Earth’s capacity to support a human existence for all in the future."
~ Mathis Wackernagel and William E. Rees (authors of Our Ecological Footprint)

^^ In order to effectively reduce one’s environmental impact, it is important to have an understanding of
what that impact is in the first place. An "Ecological Footprint" is the measure of how much land it requires to sustain the needs of your household. The average per person needs to be 1.89 Hectares for the Earth to sustain everybody. Unfortunately, many of the "well off" countries, or, 1st world as some refer to it, are reaching and in some cases exceeding 7.5 Hectares. Such astonishing numbers are completely un-acceptable! At this rate, our planet cannot support all of us, in fact, it will require over 4 Earths to support this amount of wastefulness and greed in our lives. I highly encourage ALL of you to realise the damage we are doing to our planet and change our wasteful ways. Most of us have no idea how good we have it, and how much we are taking for granted. That all stops NOW! http://www.myfootprint.org/ <- Take this quiz and see how you compare to the rest of your country, and the action required to manufacture a more stable and prosperous life for all on this planet. Think of others, the children and the eternal well being for all, greed is one of if not the worse qualities of man.

Climate Change

Climate change is real and it is happening right now. Its reality can be seen in melting ice, dying coral reefs, rising sea levels, changing ecosystems and prolonged and more severe droughts. According to the [World Health Organization], 150,000 people are dying every year as a result of climate change. It is for this reason that the world needs to take action now before our planet becomes damaged beyond repair.‛ ~ Greenpeace International

^^ This is a serious issue and it seems like people are laxing at it assuming they don't need to take action until issues start to happen. News flash, they have been for awhile now. It's time to wake up and smell the dying roses here people, immediate and severe action is required. We need to sharply decrease our emissions; yes, it is a global issue, but not everyone should have to pitch in an equal role in this crisis. The pecking order begins at the top, with countries such as the United States, Canada and Australia, whom are producing shocking numbers. These well off countries are going to need to take a hit for the team and cut back immensely. Our standard of living must drop in order to meet the capacity of greenhouse gases in this wonderful planet that we are taking ever so for granted.
